Remember the Titans

Remember the Titans

In the year of 9/11, I remember being in class and being so happy about Remember the Titans. If an opportunity arised for anyone to  ask me about my favorite things and one of the categories was movies...I knew immediately my answer would be this movie.

The cinematography and the music were immediate hits for me. I loved this movie so much that I remember during a soccer warm up, I was singing their fight song except I replaced their mascot with ours.

I walked away from that movie full of life lessons and a better understanding of different communities. I had an understanding of the baby boomer generation.

I thought this was a well known, famous Disney movie. It had to be, it had Denzel Washington in it. What I now know is, maybe people knew of it. But I also know unlike the title, maybe a lot of people don't know this movie. Or, they act like they don't remember any of the important points of the movie. People may have Forgot this movie and the Titans. Maybe it didn't strike a cord inside of them as it did for me. Its shocking that it didn't.

I say all this to say, there are many quotes in this movie that engages the viewer. But one sticks out to me. It did a year ago. 24 years had passed and this monologue was brought back to top of mind. It had collected dust in the filing cabinet in my mind. Then, I pondered on it often. I wanted to post about it a year ago. Now all of this historic knowledge has again, become everyday news. The parallels are obvious and not something I imagined for the new millennium as a child.

Something inside of me said "Remember".

The quote begins, "Anybody know what this place is? This is Gettysburg..."

Please watch this movie and listen to the quotes. This should be required viewing for everyone in the USA.
